Helping Children Thrive

When children come into foster care or kinship care, their emotional and behavioral needs are not always fully known. Without early, supportive intervention, even mild concerns can grow into serious challenges. That’s where CK Behavioral Health (CKBH) comes in.

At CK Family Services, our Behavioral Health program equips children with the practical tools they need to succeed—and provides caregivers with the support to keep placements stable and strong.

What Is Behavioral Health—and How Does It Help?

Behavioral Health services at CK Family Services are a vital part of the overall care we provide. We offer a wide range of evidence-based, proven methods and programs tailored to each child’s unique needs and stage of development—including Wraparound Case Management and Skills Training—a powerful combination of services that has been shown to dramatically improve outcomes for both children and their families. Read more about our BH services HERE.

These services work in addition to therapy—not in place of it. In fact, many children benefit from receiving both. Where therapy supports healing and emotional growth, CKBH offers hands-on strategies children can apply in the moment, helping them manage their behavior, improve communication, and navigate daily challenges.

Our services are delivered by Qualified Mental Health Professionals trained in trauma-informed and evidence-based care. They work closely with the child and caregivers to develop customized plans that target the child’s specific needs and build on their strengths.

Skills That Change Lives

Through Behavioral Health Skills Training, children learn how to:

  • Manage big emotions like frustration or anxiety
  • Improve focus and follow routines
  • Strengthen peer and adult relationships
  • Practice problem-solving, coping skills, and communication
  • Build confidence and independence in daily life

These are the skills that help children thrive—not just in the moment, but in school, in relationships, and long term.

Why Early Referrals Matter

Too often, support is delayed while caregivers wait to “see how things go.” But waiting can mean missing a key opportunity to build trust, introduce new skills, and prevent the kinds of behavioral escalations that put placement stability at risk.

When a referral is made early—even before major concerns arise—it gives the child time to learn, grow, and succeed before the situation becomes more complex or disruptive.

If a child is 3 years or older and covered by STAR Health Medicaid or other qualifying insurance plan, Behavioral Health services are typically 100% covered. No out-of-pocket cost to the family or agency. Services are tailored to each child’s needs and offered in a format that works best for the family.

Additional Programs

In addition to our core services, CK Behavioral Health also participates in innovative programs that serve families before crisis hits.

Texas Families First (TFF)

This pilot program, operating in Tarrant, Somervell, Johnson, and Palo Pinto counties, provides upstream Behavioral Health support to families who may be at risk of future involvement with the foster care system. By offering resources and interventions early, TFF helps stabilize families and keep children safely at home.

H.O.P.E. Team

In partnership with DFPS, the H.O.P.E. (Healing, Overcoming, Placement and Empowerment) Team ensures that youth in the Empower region—including those between placements or at risk of placement loss—still receive the mental health services they need. The program offers continuity of care no matter where a child is, helping them feel supported during transitions and increasing their chances for long-term stability.

Creating Brighter Futures

At CK Family Services, our mission is rooted in enhancing the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of at-risk children and families. Behavioral Health services are one of the most impactful tools we offer—building real-world skills, strengthening placements, and helping children thrive in every area of life.
