Building Forever Families
There’s a reason “family” is part of our name. We believe in the power of a stable, loving family to give kids the best start possible – whether the family is biological, foster or adopted. While we do offer adoption services, we do not provide private adoption, international adoption, or what is commonly referred to as matched or straight adoption. Our primary focus is on providing temporary foster parenting for children in the hope of reuniting them with their family of origin.
An important note about foster care as it relates to adoption – the first objective when a child is put into foster care is to help the birth family reunite with the child. Both the birth family and the child get counseling and support to help make a successful reunion possible.
Adoption from Foster Care
Unfortunately, it is not always possible to return children to their parents from foster care. When the courts order termination of parental rights, the child needs an adoptive family in order to exit the foster care system and ensure they can achieve their full potential.
Many children in foster care are placed with relatives or close family friends. We refer to this type of foster placement as Kinship Care. In this context grandparents, aunts, uncles or cousins (even close family friends in some cases) step in to care for the child and adopt them if reunification with their parents is not an option.
Alternatively, if no relatives are available to care for and adopt children, we help facilitate adoption of those children by their foster parents when it is approved and appropriate to do so. Typically, we talk about these two adoption options in terms of either relative adoption (adoption of the child by someone they are related to) or unrelated adoption (adoption of the child by a foster parent or a friend who has been identified as "kinship".
Regardless of how adoption happens, the gift is life-changing for everyone involved. The joys, the breakdowns, the breakthroughs, the firsts and lasts – and all the high fives in between. All the things that make family bonds unlike any other.
CK Family Services is licensed by the State of Texas to verify foster parents and to approve foster parents to adopt children from foster care. If you have a heart for fostering children and/or if you are a foster parent or kinship parent who wants to adopt the children you are caring for let us know. Our parent recruitment staff are standing by to help answer your questions and get you moving toward finalizing your forever family.
