You’re putting family first, and we want to help

Stepping in to care for a child in your extended family means the world to them. We also know it can turn your world upside down. We’re here to help with services and support from our expert team – all at no cost to you.

Types of Kinship Care and Support Services

Unverified Kinship Care

When considered safe and appropriate by DFPS, unverified kinship care provides a familiar home for children in need. Though caregivers haven't completed state requirements for verification, this approach offers a bridge of support during a critical time for a child. And the children are automatically covered by STARHEALTH Medicaid (the state’s Medicaid for youth in kinship care).

We have a variety of resources available at no cost for unverified kinship caregivers and the children they support. All the services are funded through Medicaid.

  • Case management to connect with additional resources
  • Behavioral health services
  • Mental health services

Verified Kinship Care

This type of care occurs when a kinship caregiver receives verification through a child-placing agency. The requirements for kinship caregivers and traditional foster parents are the same – both with the goal of improving the lives of children in care.

At CK Family, we regularly help foster parents get verified, and we can do the same for kinship caregivers. Getting verified as a foster parent means you are eligible for even more support:

  • Daily reimbursement for expenses like food and clothing for the child
  • Case management to help you navigate additional benefits
  • Educational support
  • Behavioral health support
  • Mental health support
