Juneteenth, observed on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when news of freedom finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. The holiday marks the end of slavery in the United States and serves as a time to reflect on our nation's history, celebrate African American culture and achievements, and continue pursuing unity, understanding, and equality for all.
