At CK Family Services, we believe that every child deserves a safe, nurturing home where they can heal and grow. While all foster parents provide crucial care, some children require specialized support due to complex trauma, medical needs, or behavioral challenges.
That’s where healing through Treatment Foster Care (TFC), also known as Treatment Family Foster Care (TFFC), comes in.
What is Treatment Foster Care?
TFC is a higher level of foster care designed for children who need additional structure, therapeutic intervention, and consistent, trauma-informed caregiving. TFC parents receive additional specialized training and ongoing support to help them provide stability and healing for children facing significant emotional or behavioral needs.
Often called "professional foster parents," these TFC parents are equipped with advanced skills, therapeutic strategies, and a strong support network, ensuring that children in their care receive the best chance to thrive. While they receive enhanced compensation, the most valuable reward is seeing a child find hope, security, and the confidence to move forward.
"So many children have had their lives changed by being in a TFFC home where foster parents do not give up on them but tenderly and consistently help them grieve significant loss and work through their trauma." - Shannon Bouse, CKFS Director of Foster and Adoptive Services

Why It Matters
Children placed in Treatment Foster Care have often experienced multiple placements and disruptions. They need caregivers who can provide stability, patience, and unconditional support. By investing in TFC, we invest in the future of these children, giving them the opportunity to heal within a family, not a treatment facility, and ultimately go on to find permanent, loving homes.
"We need more families willing to care of children who have been through trauma and neglect through no fault of their own. Being a Treatment Foster Care family could positively change the directions of children’s lives just by supporting them, showing up for them, and mirroring love and empathy." - Michelle Rivera, CKFS Central Texas Area Director
If you’ve ever considered foster parenting or if you are currently a foster parent who might be interested in leveling up to provide this specialized care, we'd like to talk to you about the impact of TFC. Together, we can create a stronger, more supportive community for children who need us most.
