As we observe National Single Parent Day, we take a moment to recognize the incredible dedication and resilience of single parents in our community. Did you know that 25% of our verified foster homes are led by single parents? This statistic speaks volumes about their commitment to providing love, stability, and security for children in need. Their generosity and willingness to open their hearts make a profound difference in young lives, creating a crucial temporary home for those who need it most. They embody the spirit of compassion and resilience.

A Story of Dedication
Leslie Ransom has been licensed with CK Family Services for 10 years and became a Treatment Foster Care (TFC) home in 2018. As a TFC parent, she is specially equipped and educated to care for children with more difficult behaviors, ensuring that those with higher needs receive the care and support they require. Since then, she has opened her home to multiple children with complex trauma backgrounds, offering them stability and compassion. Her dedication even led her to adopt one of her TFC placements in 2022.
As a single foster parent, Leslie has restructured her life to meet the needs of the children in her care, going above and beyond to provide them with a sense of security, love, and belonging. Whether adjusting routines, advocating for their well-being, or ensuring they have the tools to heal and grow, she remains steadfast in her commitment.
Leslie understands the mission of providing stability, love, and safety for children through a Christ-centered approach. Her unwavering dedication reflects the very heart of single parents in foster care—those who step up, stand firm, and change lives.
The Resilience of Single Parents
The role of a single parent comes with challenges, but it also cultivates remarkable problem-solving skills, determination, and perseverance. Balancing multiple responsibilities and ensuring a nurturing environment is no small feat.
Parenting is hard, no matter the situation. All parents need a strong support system, encouragement, and many rely on the Lord’s strength to lead them through. Single parents rise to the occasion every day, continuing to show up for their children through hard work, dedication, and love.
Single-parent households often develop distinct strengths that benefit both parents and children such as:
- Deep Emotional Bonds: The close-knit nature of single-parent families encourages open communication and a strong parent-child connection.
- Independence and Responsibility: Children in these households often learn early on how to contribute and appreciate the effort required to maintain a home.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Navigating life as a single-parent family instills resilience and the ability to manage change effectively.
