Texas offers a wide array of events and activities throughout February 2025, providing opportunities for families, individuals, and communities to celebrate, learn, and connect. Whether through music, art, food, or storytelling, events like these offer a meaningful way to engage with and honor Black history and culture. 

Here are some highlights to mark on your calendar:

Black History Month Celebration and Art Exhibit: February 1

Kick off Black History Month with an art exhibit at the MLK Jr. Recreation Center in Denton from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This free event showcases local talent and highlights Black culture and history through creative expression.

Mesquite Foodie Trail: Black-Owned Trail

Starting February 1, embark on a self-guided culinary tour of Black-owned restaurants in Mesquite. The Mesquite Foodie Trail highlights eateries on the Visit Mesquite website and in a printed guide, which includes each restaurant's location, description, and signature dish. This delicious journey supports local businesses and celebrates culinary traditions.

Cowboys of Color Film: February 8

Learn about the contributions of Black cowboys through the "Cowboys of Color" film screening at Opal Lawrence Historical Park, 711 E. Kearney St., Mesquite. The event begins at 11 a.m. and is free to the public.

Celebrate Black History Month at the Eugene McCray Community Center: February 8

Celebrate Black History Month with your community at the Eugene McCray Community Center! This fun, family-oriented event takes place on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4932 Wilbarger Street, Fort Worth, TX 76119. Admission is $20, and the event promises an enjoyable atmosphere honoring Black culture and history.

Black History Month Celebration: Shared Experiences and Shared History: February 8

Join the Cozby Library and Community Commons in Coppell from 2 to 3:30 p.m. for a celebration of African American labor history. This event features displays of books, photos, artifacts, and memorabilia, a live harp performance paying tribute to legendary Black harpists, and discussions led by Black business community members. The event is intended for adults and teens in grade 9 and above. No registration is required.

Ain’t Too Proud — The Life and Times of The Temptations: February 11–16

Don’t miss this electrifying Broadway musical that chronicles The Temptations’ journey from Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Featuring their legendary hits, the performance runs from February 11 to 16 at Bass Performance Hall, 525 Commerce St., Fort Worth. Tickets start at $44.

Family Day & Read-In: February 15

Head to the African American Museum of Dallas at Fair Park on Saturday, February 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free event features literacy activities, kid-friendly crafts, and a paint party. Hosted by The Dock Bookshop, an African American-owned bookstore in Fort Worth, this family-friendly day promotes education and creativity for all ages.

Dallas Black History Month Food Festival: February 16

Enjoy a diverse range of flavors and culinary traditions at the Dallas Black History Month Food Festival on Sunday, February 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lofty Spaces, 816 Montgomery St., Dallas. Tickets range from $6 to $30, with free admission for children 15 and under.

Lecture: Traces of the Sacred with the Smithsonian’s Dr. Eric Williams: February 19

Dr. Eric Williams, curator at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, presents insights from his Smithsonian exhibition "Spirit in the Dark: Religion in Black Music, Activism, and Popular Culture." The lecture highlights the intersection of religion and Black cultural expression through photographs and artifacts. Join this engaging event at the Mayborn Museum in Waco on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. The event is free, with a suggested donation of $5. Audience: Teens & Adults.

ArtVenture in Waco: February 20

Teens ages 12-18 are invited to ArtVenture at Art Center Waco on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 4:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. This relaxed setting offers an opportunity to learn and grow from professional artists and local art educators. Materials, snacks, and drinks are provided. Suggested donation: $5. This month’s ArtVenture highlights Black History Month.

African Drummer and Storyteller Baba Kwasi: February 22

Experience the captivating rhythms and stories of African drummer Baba Kwasi at the Mesquite Main Library on Saturday, February 22, at 2 p.m. This event is free and open to all ages, offering an engaging introduction to African percussion instruments, storytelling, and songs.

Black History Month Kid's Day at the Carver: February 22

Come join us for a fun-filled day of celebration and learning at the George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center in Austin. On Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., this exciting event is dedicated to honoring and educating little ones about the rich history of Black culture.
