Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is a vibrant celebration of the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities across the United States. Running from September 15 through October 15, this month-long celebration kicks off on a date of special significance—it marks the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, all of which declared their independence in 1821. Following closely, Mexico, Chile, and Belize celebrate their own independence days on September 16, 18, and 21, respectively.

Savor the Flavors

Traditional dishes are a delicious gateway to the history and culture of various Latin American countries. One popular dish you might want to try is pozole—a flavorful and hearty Mexican stew made with hominy, tender pork or chicken, and seasoned with chili and spices. Pozole is often served with an array of fresh toppings like shredded lettuce, radishes, onions, and lime. This dish is not only delicious but also deeply rooted in Mexican tradition, often served during celebrations and special occasions. Dive into the flavors of Hispanic cuisine this month and savor the richness of these culinary traditions!
